Hail Hydras!

Welcome to our first commander build feature.

To start things off we are going budget - with a theme of hydras. Budget Hydras, so no Progenitus or Nyx lotus.

We have kept the build light on Artifacts, (having chosen Mono Green) so have excellent ramp in the form of elves, Cultivate and Rampant Growth. Our main win condition is to smash the enemy in the face for max Commander damage: Gargos, Vicious Watcher is here for this job. Our hydras will be using the fighting mechanic to get rid of any threats on the board that pop up. Inspiring Call and Return of the Wildspeaker will help us with card draw. Invigorate in a multiplayer game when you are tapped out is a great card. Hydra’s growth and Withstand Death will enhance our Commander, once it has some counters on it. Death’s Presence is included to help the deck by getting value from our creatures dying.

As with most decks that rely on counters, it is weak against Solemnity.

Top hydras to trade out with this deck would be Primordial Hydra, Polukranos and Kalonian Hydra. Switching out the commander (Animar, Soul of Elements would be a good choice. As although not a hydra, would give you access to the most of the hydra creatures.) to dip into blue would give you access to Vorel of the Hull Clade to get more counters and include Dramatic Reversal, Isochron Sceptre and some Artifact mana to make it go crazy. Another good addition to this tactic would be Hydroid Krasis.

If you wanted to annoy your play group you could also upgrade it with infect!
